First and foremost, the King's Own are dedicated to safety. At any event, we want both the public and the reenactors to enjoy themselves. The 4th exists to provide a service and have fun, not incur medical bills. Still, reenacting with firearms (muskets) and other weapons (bayonets) includes some risk. To minimize this risk, we offer extensive training, perform numerous safety inspections, and carry 3rd party insurance.
Extensive Training
To be an effective force and to know the safety procedures by heart, the King's Own drills frequently. During drills, we repeat the same motions and maneuvers that will occur on the field of battle. As a result, when we leap into action, our members are cognizant of what is happening, in-step with fellow reenactors, properly re-creating 18th Century military tactics and techniques, and calm and collected as they instinctively follow their training.
Safety Inspections
Before reenactors take the field, we have well-trained and experienced safety inspectors check our kit. Inspections may include simple things like adequate water so you don't dehydrate. They also cover the proper functioning of your flintlock to help keep it from accidentally discharging. Inspections are meant to protect you, your fellow reenactors, and the public. But don't worry, nobody gets in trouble when something is found to be amiss - this happens even to the most experienced. The goal is to help you correct a potential hazard.
3rd Party Insurance
Although highly unlikely, there is always the risk that a member of the public could be injured. We carry 3rd Party Insurance as protection for our members just in case.
