Passing of real King's Own into History
The King's Own regrets to inform the passing of the real King's Own
regiment into history, bringing to close a group that had distinquished itself since 1680.
On July 1st, 2006, the King's Own Royal Border Regiment amalgamated with the
King's Regiment and the Queen's Lancashire Regiment to form the new
Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (King's Lancashire and Border). The King's Own becomes the basis of the new 2nd Battalion.
Our friends in the Regimental Association say the sense of loss is
immense. Sjt-Mjr Tony Costigan writes, "It (was) a very sad day for all of us
ex-soldiers (somewhat akin to having a piece of us amputated), but we
intend to keep the flag flying by way of reunions and the like."
Sjt-Mjr Costigan also writes of the reenacted King's own that he's
"very pleased, proud and impressed by the quality of your website and the
commitment of your re-enactment society".
It's good to know that our work here is helping to keep the memory of
the regiment, and the deeds of its members, alive. More information about the new regiment can be found at Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, and you can also read about the King's Own History.
