Hubbardton Ho!
The King's Own will participate in the Battle of Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment on July 8 and 9, 2006, in Vermont. This event takes place at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site.
This event is particularly enjoyable due to the venue, an incredibly scenic part of Vermont with terrain that also makes for challenging battle reenactments. There will be ample American and Crown forces in attendance. The public is welcome as spectators.
Historically, the Battle of Hubbardton is part of the American Revolution's Saratoga campaign where British General Johnny Burgoyne attempted to split the northern colonies. The Americans, under General Gates, executed a delay action until the British supply lines were spent.
Hubbardton was the only Vermont Revolutionary War action and is noted as the American forces saving the Northern Army by a successful rear-action engagement. Rear-action is the phrase given to a battle where one of the forces is retreating and the forces in the rear fight long enough to allow the army to slip away.
Read more information about this event on the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site. We hope that you will visit us in the British camp.
