On the Attack!
The King's Own will be deployed to the Caribbean this April to reenact the 1797 invasion of San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Fort San Cristóbal. The event starts April 24 and continues through Sunday, April 26th. We look forward to meeting any spectators.
In 1797, the British invasion force of 7,000 - 13,000 men commanded by Sir Ralph Abercromby's forces, one of the largest ever to invade Spanish territories in America, are halted a mile from San Cristóbal at the Escambrón defenses, also known as San Juan's First Line of Defense. The invasion failed.
While this event is a little outside this reenactment group's timeline of American Revolutionary War era, the clothing is not that much different than the style worn late in that war. It's also part of a segway that the 4th will be making to take part in War of 1812 reenactments as we approach those events bicentennials - as we were important to that theatre of war also.
