Inlistment Ceremony for 5 New Recruits
On Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Fort 4 in Charlstown, NH, The King's Own will hold an Enlistment Ceremony for 5 new recruits. The formal ceremony is the acceptance of these recruits to the re-enacted 4 th company and an opportunity to educate the public about "inlistment practices" in the 18 th century British Army.
Two detachments of old soldiers, under arms, plus a detachment of Drummers & Fifers will flank the recruits in an open box formation. A Justice Of the Peach will preside. Chris Woolf as Serjeant William Tingey and Dave White as Lieutenant John Barker will be in command.
A brief explanation for the public will be made prior to the ceremony. The ceremony itself is full of grave importance conducted in a scene of honour. Reputation and duty will be important, but also inherent is the legal responsibilities of the men.
Such Inlistment Ceremonies are rare at reenactments, so the King's Own recommends public attend this event to capture a scene outside the battle ground.
