The King’s Own recreates the Light Infantry Company of His Majesty’s 4th Regiment of Foot as they appeared in April 1775 and during the American Revolution. We are based in New England and are often referred to simply as "the 4th" or "4th Foot."
We are historical interpreters, or reenactors, providing living history at reenactments, encampments, parades, forums, for the media, and at other venues. Our group consists of men, women, and children – all of whom had significant roles to play in the British army!
The King’s Own represents the crown forces (a.k.a. British Regulars, the Redcoats, Lobsterbacks, etc.) and engages the public in learning about American History from the British perspective during the American Revolution. We are also the necessary counterparts to the local militia (a.k.a. Minutemen) so they have a visible enemy to battle against. Learning about “the other side” is a great way to gain an appreciation for the achievement of the Minutemen!
Through historical interpretations, the 4th portrays a small but elite band of British Regulars who engaged American Militia and the Continental Army during the American Revolution. In Massachusetts, we engage local farmers at Lexington Green, Concord’s Old North Bridge and other locations on Battle Road, as well as fighting at Bunker Hill. And we have fought in other battles from New York and Pennsylvania to South Carolina.
We encourage the public to visit with us at events to learn more about American and English History. We welcome you to ask questions, take photos, or just learn by watching. Topics of interest extend beyond military history to include personal stories, cultural nuances, politics of the time, and daily living habits. Quite often, our members offer views on how history affects all of us today.
